History
The beautiful Winona station was built by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad (Milwaukee Road) in the late 1800s.
The Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway Company Station was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
Winona was founded in 1851 by a steamboat captain. Positioned on a large island in the Mississippi, the lumber industry helped it grow quickly, and by 1900 Winona had more millionaires per capita than any place in the United States. Today, eagles still fly overhead, deer sleep in yards, and on the outskirts of Winona you can hear the sound of coyotes on still summer nights.
The Winona facility is shared with the Canadian Pacific Railway, a freight carrier.
This station has a waiting room and is staffed by an Amtrak employee.
The Winona station is served daily by two trains.
