Customers at Holdrege use a concrete platform built in 2020, and parking is available in the city parking lot north of the train station. The lot is accessible from 3rd Ave. with an entrance west of East Ave. Amtrak does not use the historic 1910 Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (CB&Q) depot, which has been renovated for commercial purposes and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Rail passengers should not park adjacent to the building.

Holdrege is named for George Holdrege, a civil engineer, who built the CB&Q as it came through Phelps County. Holdrege is listed among America’s best small towns and is the county seat.  During World War II, Holdrege was a major troop activity center and served a nearby prisoner of war camp. The Nebraska Prairie Museum is located one mile north of the community. It contains a collection of more than one acre of indoor exhibits, including period clothing, antique vehicles and toys, farm equipment, tools and household items.
