The Power of Community: Lawrence, Kan.

LAWRENCE, KAN.—Since 2008, volunteers with the Depot Redux organization have advocated for the preservation and rehabilitation of the city’s 1956 Mid-Century Modern station.

After many years of seeking financial support for the rehabilitation effort, the city won a $1.2 million Transportation Enhancement grant in June 2013. As Assistant City Manager Diane Stoddard notes, “Grant-makers take notice of community enthusiasm. Certainly community commitment is a big piece of this.”
