SPACE FOR COMMERCIAL USE
Union Station in New Haven, Conn. is attractive real estate for local businesses.
For many communities, renovated train stations offer great space for local businesses to thrive. Union Station in New Haven is a great example of how the constant flow of travelers, consumers and members of the surrounding community can transform a station into the perfect place for restaurants, retail and office space.
Union Station, originally designed by architect Cass Gilbert in 1917, was renovated as part of Federal Railway Administrationās (FRA) Northeast Corridor Improvement Project. The project involved extensive exterior and interior restoration including a complete renovation of the passageway to the train platforms. The building features an impressive grand hall waiting room with 35 foot high ornate ceilings, limestone walls and large windows.
The station is home to many businesses including a rental car company, restaurants and office space. A new parking garage structure was built to complement the historic and architectural aspects of the station.
