Burlington was founded in 1857 because the North Carolina Railroad needed a centrally-located maintenance facility on its Goldsboro-Charlotte line. The Amtrak waiting room is in the former engine house, which also includes office space and an exhibit tracing the history of the North Carolina Railroad.

Amtrak Kicks Off Construction in Philadelphia
With an estimated capital construction value of $550 million, the project to modernize Gray 30th Street Station will continue through 2027. Major elements of the station restoration and renovation include expanding food and beverage and retail offerings, improving station operations, enhancing the customer experience and upgrading the Market Street Plaza.
